During an initial conference (that is what the meeting is called in the policy) students accused of violating the Student Conduct Code or other University policy will meet the student conduct officer assigned to resolve the allegation. To resolve the allegations, the accused student and the conduct officer discuss:
- The Conduct Process the University uses to resolve allegations of misconduct;
- The source of the information alleging misconduct;
- The extent to which the accused student may have been involved;
- Any applicable sanctions in the event the student conduct officer believes them to be necessary.
The initial conference is an occasion to determine whether or not an accused student is responsible for the alleged misconduct. As part of the process, students can offer any information they believe will help the student conduct officer arrive at an accurate conclusion. The initial conference is an opportunity for students to share their perspective on what happened and why the allegations exist.
