The Student Conduct Code does prohibit violations against other people that are motivated by bias, hate or discrimination. Often these violations are accompanied by prejudicial communications in public or vandalism that contain hateful words.

The University addresses these issues because it wants to create a learning environment where people are comfortable being themselves and sharing their ideas and beliefs in an honest and respectful manner. Ignoring violations that are motivated by hate, bias or discrimination may stifle participation by and contributions from all members of the University community.
