Assistance animals are not the same thing as service animals. Service animals are trained to perform work or tasks for someone with a disability. Assistance animals are a source of emotional support for individuals with an emotional or mental condition. Assistance animals may not accompany their owners on campus except for in the residence halls provided their owner has a contract to live in on-campus housing. Moreover, the assistance animal may only be permitted to stay within the resident's room or apartment.
