This tutorial will show you how to upload media from your computer to the My Media tool, and how to embed media from the My Media tool into Canvas. If you are new to using the My Media tool, please read the Guide to the My Media and Media Gallery Tools [Faculty/Student] before proceeding.

Step 1
Log in to your Canvas account and then select the My Media tool in the navigation pane on the left. Then select Log In.

Select Add New.
Step 3
Select Media Upload.
Step 4
Select Choose a file to upload.
Step 5
Browse for and open the media you want to upload.
You will see the status of the upload at the top.
Type in the name of the media, type a description (optional), add tags by typing the tag followed by a comma (optional), and then select Save.

Go back up to the privacy settings and select Published. Choose the courses in which you want to use the video and then select Save.
Step 7
Select either Go To Media to view the video or Go To My Media to view all of your videos.
If you have not already uploaded your media to the My Media tool or created media with the screen recorder, webcam recorder, etc., please do that first.
You have the option to embed media into any location in which you see this toolbar:

Select the Kaltura icon.
Step 2
Review the following image to learn how you can sort your media to find what you need.
1: All media you have uploaded to Canvas
2: Media uploaded to the specific course
3: Choose among most recent, alphabetical, and highest number of comments
4: choose among all statuses, private published, pending, and rejected
5: Choose among all media, videos, audio, and images
6: Choose between Media I Own and I Can Publish
7: Add new media, webcam recording, or screen recording
8: Change view
9: Takes you to the next step for embedding the media

Select the Select button once you have found your media. Select the drop-down arrow to select the size of the player.

The window will close, and you will see a gray placeholder. Save the page, discussion, etc. to view the media.
Do you have a video on your tablet or smartphone (iOS, Android, Windows) that you want to include in one of your Canvas courses? You may initially think that emailing the video to yourself and then embedding the video on your PC is the easiest method, but this tutorial will show you how to use the My Media tool to embed the video directly from your mobile device.
NOTE FOR STUDENTS: Access to the My Media tool varies because instructors can choose to activate or not activate it.
Step 1
Log in to your Canvas account and then select the box for the course in which you want to add the video.
Step 2
Select the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner to display the tool pane. Select the My Media tool. [Read the Activating Canvas Tools tutorial if you haven't activated the My Media tool already.]
Step 3
Select the Add New button and then choose Media Upload.
Step 4
Select Choose a file to upload.
Steps 4-8 will differ based on the device and browser you're using. This tutorial has instructions for iPad users working through the Google Chrome browser. Select Photo Library.
Step 6
Select Videos.
Step 7
Select the video you want to embed.
Step 8
Select Use in the top right corner. Wait for the video to compress, and then the window will close automatically.
Step 9
Wait for the video to complete uploading.
Step 10
Scroll to the bottom and select Save.
Step 11
Select the Pages, Discussions, Assignments, etc. tool to navigate to the location in which you want to embed the video. Select the Kaltura icon (blue and orange circle).

Find your video and then select the blue Select button.

You will see a gray placeholder box. The video will appear once you select Save.
