This tutorial will show you how to install the Canvas app on your Android device.
Step 1
Go to the Google Play store and search for the Canvas app. Tap FREE.
Step 2
Tap INSTALL.
Step 3
Tap ACCEPT.
Tap Open.
Step 4
Type in Southern Utah University.
Step 5
Type in your login information.
Step 6
If you are on your own device, tap the box next to Remember my authorization for this service. Then tap Log In.
Step 7
Scroll through the app orientation and then tap the checkmark.
Customizing the Courses List
Select the drop-down menu in the top left corner to choose between My Courses and All Courses. My Courses displays only the courses you mark with a star, and All Courses displays all of the courses for which you are currently registered/teaching. To give a course a star, select the three circle icon and then select the star in the bottom left corner. Then select Done.
Customizing Course Colors
Change the colors of the courses on the homepage to suit your preferences by selecting the three circle icon, selecting a color, and then selecting DONE.
Accessing and Navigating a Course
Select a course to open it. Use the pane on the left to quickly navigate to different pages. Select and drag the line separating the pane and the main screen to change the size of the pane. Select the arrow in the top right corner to hide the pane. Select the arrow again to bring the pane back. Select the drop-down menu in the top left corner to open a specific tool.
Opening and Using the Navigation Pane
Drag your finger from the left edge of the screen towards the right side to open the navigation pane. Use this pane to 1) view your profile and personal files, 2) return to the courses list, 3) view notifications, 4) view a To-Do List, 5) read and send messages, 6) view grades, 7) open SpeedGrader (if you are an instructor), 8) open settings, 9) open the help menu, and 10) log out of the app.
Managing Users
The Canvas app gives you the ability to add, remove, and switch users within the app. To manage users, drag your finger from the left edge of the screen towards the right side to open the navigation pane and then select your name.
To add a user, select +Add Account and then type Southern Utah University into the search box. Next, log in with the new user's information.
To switch users, reopen the navigation pane, tap your name, and then tap the user to which you want to switch.
To remove users, reopen the navigation pane, tap your name, and then tap the X next to the user's name to remove it.
Customizing Your Profile
Open the navigation pane. Select your picture at the top of the list, and then select the three circle icon in the top right corner. From this menu, you can 1) take a new profile picture, 2) select a profile picture from the images on your device, 3) remove your profile picture, 4) choose a backdrop image, 5) edit your username, and 6) create a panda avatar.
Change App Settings
Open the navigation pane and then select Settings at the bottom. 1) Next to Landing Page, select the drop-down menu to choose the courses list, notifications page, to-do list, messages, or grades as the landing page, or the first page that opens when you open the app. 2) Select the box next to Turn off the pandas to remove the pandas. 3) Select the box next to Calendar Starts on Monday to make Monday the first day of the week in the calendar. 4) Select Notifications to choose which notifications you want to receive. 5) Select Tutorial to open the orientation that you saw when you opened the app the very first time. 6) Select Legal to view the associated information.
