This tutorial will show you the correct format for importing fill-in-the-blank questions into Respondus. Build your quiz as a .txt, .rtf, or .doc file.

First, you need to designate the question as a fill-in-the-blank question in a way that Respondus can recognize. Type Type: F as your first line.

To specify a point value, type Points: followed by the points that the question is worth. If you don't specify the point value, the question will automatically be worth 1 point.

Hit enter to start a new line. To include a title for your question, type Title: followed by the title for the question. Specifying a title is optional, and so Respondus will automatically use the first 20 characters of the question wording for the title if you want to skip this step.

Hit enter to start a new line. Type the question number followed by either a period . or a parenthesis ). Next, type the question wording. Be sure to put a space between the . or ) and the first word.

To include general feedback, which is optional), hit enter to start a new line. Next, type a ~ followed by the text that you want your students to see if they choose the correct answer, or if you want to give feedback to students who chose the wrong answer, replace the ~ with a @. To include both, type the ~ followed by the positive feedback, hit enter to start a new line, and then type the @ followed by the negative feedback.

Hit enter twice to start a new line with an extra space. Type a followed by a period . or parenthesis ) and then type the answer for the blank. If you want multiple forms of the answer to be accepted, hit enter and type b followed by a . or ). Repeat for other forms.
